This traditional Japanese digging knife, known overseas as a Hori Hori knife, is built in a robust full-tang version for the most demanding work. Its gently curved, scoop-shaped blade is designed to slice through soil and pry up deep-rooted plants, making it genuinely versatile across a wide range of gardening and outdoor tasks. The design traces back to the simple bamboo digging tools once carried by Japan's mountain hunters, the matagi, who split and sharpened dried bamboo to harvest the bounty of the mountains — and the blade's distinctive curve still echoes that bamboo form rather than a conventional spade. The full-tang construction, in which the steel core runs through the entire handle, is often associated with premium quality and gives this model noticeably greater strength than the No.6500 — ideal for heavier work. The blade is fully hardened and mirror-polished for excellent rust resistance and a keen, durable edge, and it comes with a sturdy, special-spec genuine leather sheath. For overseas users, the depth scale also includes inch markings. Valued for its rust resistance, durability, and sharpness, it handles a wide range of gardening tasks with a single blade.
