The flagship of our leisure-knife range, the Full Metal is a digging knife known overseas as a Hori Hori knife — here taken to its most robust form. The handle is formed from a single sheet of stainless steel in the traditional Japanese socket (fukuro) style, so the knife can be used even where others cannot, such as underwater, and a wooden handle can be fitted in an emergency. The blade is ground to 3 mm and the handle core to 2 mm using the precision grinding we specialise in, giving a finely balanced feel in the hand, and the whole piece is hardened for the greatest strength in the range. It is made like a fine knife: rather than bending the blade after grinding, the curve is formed first, then hardened and ground in three dimensions along that curve — a labour-intensive process few makers in the world still use. The result is a fully hardened, uniformly hard blade that is tough, re-sharpenable, and finished with genuine Japanese-style beauty. For overseas users, the depth scale includes inch markings.
