• Has a square-edged blade used to carve out wide surfaces thinly or to round off corners.
• Used to suppress unevenness and produce a flat surface.
• The high-speed steel (SKH-51) edge holds its edge about three times longer than earlier blades.
• The cherry-wood (sakura) handle is hard-wearing and has a bit of weight, giving good balance for applying force.
• The high-speed steel section is thin and the core metal is extra-soft iron, so it sharpens almost like regular steel and resists softening even when machine-sharpened.
