Collection: Hozan Tomoe

Hozan Tomoe (HOZANTOMOE) is the Japanese-craft brand launched in 2023 by Kanai Sangyo Co., Ltd., a maker and trading house founded in 1954 in Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, in the heart of the Tsubame-Sanjo metalworking region. Built on the idea of offering “something you would expect to exist, but never did,” the brand brings together bladesmiths with a century of history and traditional artisans from across Japan: kumiko joinery, sashiko-ori weaving, yosegi marquetry and wood veneer. Alongside its kurouchi kitchen knives, Hozan Tomoe makes the objects that surround them: knife stands, storage cases, sheaths, knife rolls, kaya wood cutting boards, and sharpening stands and basins. Each piece is finished by hand, so the grain, pattern and colour are never quite the same twice. The result is a set of tools meant to be kept and used for years, in which the craft of the blade and the craft of the wood and cloth around it are given equal weight.
